About Me?

Well, in a nutshell, this is who I am today, shaped by the highs and lows of my life, Nirmala Pather, on the path of a quality life.

Much of what I have set forth on this web site are resources that have helped me personally in effective communication to improve the quality of my life and those around me. I have also learned that this is no easy task, and there will always be pitfalls along the way. So long as one has the enthusiasm to succeed, change is possible.

In my search for more effective coping styles, I learned of some really wonderful resources that help to build, maintain and sustain relationships. The navigation links on the left and bottom of this page will guide to these resources, which have great information.

I have also been employed as a social worker, mainly in the area of foster care both in South Africa and the USA. I think my social work background influences my interest in resources such as Nonviolent Communication because they too embrace the social work principle of not judging and therefore not diagnosing and stereotyping people.

I have returned to school for classes in web design. It is a challenging but most enjoyable venture. With the support of my teachers, children and husband, this web site is the result of my new found skills. This course has led me to discover that I am able to take decent photographs. I never really had a need to take my own pictures previously and did not explore that area at all. I look forward to developing this skill.

If you have are looking to learn web design here is the information on the classes I attend. ROP Adult Web Design Program. It is a great resource for web design and other programs

In addition to the challenges of learning HTML and CSS, I enjoyed the camaraderie and support of my fellow classmates. The tiny chili design that you see on my Vegetarian Recipe section and the lotus image was designed by my class mate, Ania Shreeve, who is like a ray of sunshine. I am very grateful for her friendship and support. Another special friend is May Tang who is courageous, patient and a charming person who has overcome significant hurdles in her life.

Special thanks is due to David Hucklesby, whose patience and support carried me through many a time. David has very useful information for web designers at his site, Resource for David. It is family and friends like these, whose support and encouragement helped me to acheive my present success.
